Ash Wednesday

February 26 | Evening - 7:00 p.m., Sanctuary | Come-and-go 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Chapel

Lent is a season of forty days that precedes the celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter morning. Ash Wednesday is a special time of worship that marks the beginning of the Lenten season.

Our service includes what is known as the “imposition of ashes,” which we receive as a mark in the form of a cross on our forehead, as a sign of sin and human mortality. This ancient tradition, going back to at least the tenth century, communicates our human condition before God by solemn word and sign. As is customary, the ashes we use this year includes branches from last year’s Palm Sunday celebration.
